The National Institutes of Health offers public information on allergies and infectious diseases (including AIDS), mental health, aging, cancer, diabetes and digestive diseases.

For information on specific topics, call the NIH Office of Communications.

The National Health Information Center is a free referral service.

If you have specific health or medical questions, the people there can direct you to national organizations. You can also order publications from the NHIC list for a fee.

These national organizations — along with libraries and computer networks, and the resource centers at your HMO or local hospital — offer you many options for finding the information you need. The rest is up to you.
